Manager communications: equipping those who explain
What an employee retains almost always comes from their direct manager. An internal programme that does not equip managers addresses the company over the heads of its own reporting line, and produces the opposite of the effect it seeks.
What we put in place
- Information given to managers before their teams, systematically, with time to read it.
- Short briefing notes that give the elements of an answer to the questions that will come, including the awkward ones.
- Team meetings in a defined format, short and regular, rather than exceptional crisis meetings.
- An organised flow of feedback from the field, so that management hears something other than its own echo.
What we deliver
| Service | Content |
|---|---|
| Manager programme | Sequence, formats, kits, calendar and the role of each management level. |
| Change support | Communications plan for a reorganisation, a move, a merger or a new tool. |
| Speaking | Preparation of executives and managers, briefing notes, rehearsals. |
| Field feedback | A system to collect, process and report back on what comes up. |
Our scope
What we do not do
- We do not intervene in social dialogue or in information and consultation procedures.
- We do not write a message intended to hide a decision already taken: it shows, and it costs more than frankness.
How we work
As a project for a moment of transformation, or built into the annual internal communications support.
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to say everything?
No, but you must say what you cannot say, and when you will be able to. Silence without explanation is always interpreted at its worst.
Our managers do not have time.
That is why the formats are short and prepared. A manager who receives a one-page briefing note the day before uses it; a fifteen-page file, never.
What if the decision is unpopular?
Communication will not make it popular. It can make it understandable, which is an achievable and sufficient goal.
